FRANCE LAB 1 and FRANCE LAB 2 are boats whose history is closely linked to the America's Cup. Built at the request of Marc Pajot for the French Challenge, the FRANCE LAB boats were used as test vessels to develop the two America's Cup class boats that participated in the 1995 America's Cup in San Diego. Rigid under sail, fast, and elegant, these 3-ton yachts (2 tons in the bulb keel!) are the ideal platform for team-building activities, a yacht club, or simply for having fun on the water. Owned by Team France until 1996, they were acquired and renovated by their new owner in 2005 and presented at the 2013 Grand Pavois boat show to celebrate their 20th anniversary. Designed by French architect Philippe Briand, the LAB yachts were built at half scale to test the technical options that would be implemented on their full-size counterparts, thus developing the America's Cup class yachts FRANCE 1 and FRANCE 2. This strategy of the French Challenge means that, to this day, FRANCE LAB 1 and FRANCE LAB 2 are the only half-scale America's Cup class yachts in the world. As collector yachts, the FRANCE LAB yachts have been classified as French Maritime Heritage since June 2010. Restored for their 20th anniversary in 2013, the FRANCE LAB yachts are in perfect condition and ready to sail.
